Nigel Bennett, South Suffolk Parliamentary Campaigner, welcomes refusal of Chilton Quarry by County Council.

7.15.00pm GMT Thu 4th Dec 2008

"The decision to refuse planning permission for the Quarry at Chilton is extremely welcome and I hope that a strong defence will be made of the appeal on the first application." said Nigel Bennett.

He added " Residents are concerned when a council is a landowner and the planning authority in a case but this shows that local democracy works."

The A134 has had a catalogue of accidents in recent years and local councils and the Police strongly opposed this application on road safety issues due to the extra lorry movements and the access to the site.

Nigel Bennett concluded by stating that " the stretch of the A134 between Sudbury and Newton Green still needs further traffic management to reduce and prevent future accidents and I hope Suffolk County Council will look at this."
