Sudbury Tax Office closure is another attack on local services claim Lib Dems

1.00.00pm GMT Fri 5th Dec 2008

South Suffolk Parliamentary campaigner, Nigel Bennett condemns the closure of the Tax office in Sudbury.

"The Tax office is the latest in a list of local services at threat from Government. Services have ranged from Post Offices, Community Hospitals and the Magistrate's Court. South Suffolk is suffering from the attempted centralisation of services by Government in a rural area. This threatens reduced customer service and increasing travel and emissions at a time when the government wants to reduce this." said Nigel Bennett.

18 Revenue and Customs offices in the East of England are to close as part of a move to cut 3,400 jobs across the country with

82 jobs at risk in Suffolk as offices in Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury will be closed.

The closures are planned to start from spring 2009.
