The Liberal Democrats have selected Tom Bartleet for South Suffolk as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a General Election.

Tom will be campaigning for action to tackle the cost of living crisis, the NHS crisis and the sewage scandal.

We have spoken to thousands of residents across South Suffolk over the last few months, hearing what matters to you. Seeing a doctor or a dentist here in South Suffolk is harder than ever

Our communities in South Suffolk deserve better. Our hardworking local doctors deserve better. YOU deserve better. Tom will fight for an urgent £5bn investment in care, funded by a windfall tax on Oil and Gas companies, and reverse Rishi Sunak’s tax cuts for big banks

The Liberal Democrats are on the up after beating the Conservatives at the May local elections and winning four stunning parliamentary by-election victories since the last General Election.

Responding to Rishi Sunak calling a General Election, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for South Suffolk, Tom Bartleet said:

“For years our area has been taken for granted by an out-of-touch Conservative Government that has failed to get the basics right and lurched from crisis to crisis - now it’s time for a change.

“Local health services have been brought to their knees, people’s mortgages and rent have skyrocketed and water companies have been allowed to pump their filthy sewage into our rivers and beaches. All this by a Conservative government more interested in fighting between themselves than standing up for the country.

“Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for a fair deal. It’s a vote for a party that will stand up for our community and our health services.”
