Can you rely on politicians to do what they say?
At some time in our lives we have all done it
Whether in a shop window or on-line we have seen something which we must have
An impulse buy.
And then we get it home try it out and decide it wasn't quite what we thought it was only to discard it.
Politics is no different
Confronted with a attractive range of offers and promises it is quite usual to go for what you find most attractive.
The question is whether is you cone to regret your choice
The chart above summarises analysis from Election Maps UK ( see Election Maps UK (@electionmaps.uk) — Bluesky)
It shows the results of by elections held in the past 12 months and what proportion of the seats fought by each party they have held in a subsequent by election.
Repeat purchase is a sign you are happy with whether the parties councillors live up to their promises and whether voters have faith in their successors doing the same
It shows 80% of Liberal Democrat seats were retained after by-elections compared to around a half for Reform and the Greens and even less amongst the traditional parties
The Greens and Reform are getting all the media headlines at present and may seem attractive propositions. What these figure show is that if you want councillors who do what they say and who you would be happy voting for again you should vote Liberal Democrat on 7 May
