Our attention was caught by this article in The Guardian

It makes the little known point that despite the media focus on Green and Reform parties the Liberal Democrats are on course to make gains for an unprecedented 8th year

With both the Tories and Labour in freefall it is likely we will become the second largest party in local Government, On a good day we could be the largest if Labour performs  very badly.

The continued growth in numbers of councillors reflects the hard work they do for their communities which voters nearby see and want to have more of by electing their own Lib Dem councillors

One thing that comes with media attention is greater scrutiny as both Reform and the Greens are finding

After two  Green Party candidates standing in London at the local elections were arrested after allegedly posting antisemitic comments online we had the almost unprecedented situation of the Metropolitan police commissioner

Mark Rowley writing an open letter to Green leader Zack Polanski over the way officers arrested the Golders Green attack suspect. He accused Polanski of fuelling “rising tensions” saying he was “disappointed” that the

politician had amplified “inaccurate and misinformed commentary” that “undermines officer confidence to act”

This all followed revelations that Nigel Farage  had received the separate £5 million personal gift from Thailand-based cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne. The gift has now  been referred to the Parliamentary standards watchdog as it is believed he had been “obliged to report all political donations and gifts he had received during the previous 12 months”.

Is it any wonder hard working local councillors who focus on making their local communities better places to live are successful in the long term
