Why you should support the Liberal Democrats
The mainstream media relentlessly tends to focus on the two main parties in their coverage.
Which is a great shame because as the two parties policies become increasingly indistinguishable from each other it leaves the impression that there is only one future possible for our country.
That is far from the case.
We are not great ones for speechifying but at the weekend our leader Ed Davey outlined a programme for the next General election which offers real change to way the country is run and the priorities of the government offering a real choice
You can see the full speech here Ed Davey's speech to Spring Conference - Liberal Democrats (libdems.org.uk) but should you not have the time the highlights of the speech were
- For the Conservative and Labour parties, the current system suits them. It lets the Conservatives in most of the time, despite the majority of people voting against them. But Labour knows – if they wait long enough, their turn will come. We must move to a system of proportional representation a move now supported by a majority of voters
- The Conservatives are funded to the tune of £15m by a racist. We would limit the size of individual and corporate donations
- To fix NHS, we need to fix Social Care. This should be done by all the parties coming together to agree a solution rather than continuing to kick the issue down the road
- We should seek to re-join the European single market to help grow our economy
- Invest more in apprenticeships
- Invest in insulating our homes and more renewable power generation
- Seek an immediate ceasefire in Gaza
