With a budget due shortly  Daisy Cooper our economics spokesperson has outlined our plans to cut energy, transport and hospitality costs to give breathing space to struggling families - saving households an average of £350

Everywhere you look these days, prices are going up. People are anxious when they turn on the heating. They wince at the cost of their commute. They forgo even a simple meal out with the family, nervous about the hit to their wallet.

It shouldn’t be this way - and it doesn’t have to be.

With prices set to rise again in the new year, the Chancellor must offer immediate support in next week’s Budget.

We’re calling for an emergency £14 billion package to cut energy and transport costs and support our high street businesses over the next year and a half.

Our fully-funded plan includes:

An Essential Energy Guarantee

Our plan: Give every household an essential amount of energy, equal to 50% of typical consumption, at a discounted rate, with more support for households with children and disabled people.

Savings: £100 a year for the typical family, and £140 for the least well-off.

How is it paid for? Clawing back the unjustified profits enjoyed by the energy network monopolies, who own gas pipelines and electricity cables, due to Ofgem allowing them to pocket large margins when inflation spiked.

Cutting travel costs

Our plan: Cut rail fares by 10%, bus fares to £1, VAT on public EV charging from 20% to 5%, and fuel duty by 10p.

How is it paid for? Using the higher tax revenues generated from higher fuel prices triggered by Trumpflation.

Hospitality VAT cut

Our plan: Cut VAT on hospitality, accommodation and attractions from 20% to 15%, to reduce the cost of going out and support high streets.

How is it paid for? A windfall tax on the unearned profits of big banks that they gained from the legacy of the Quantitative Easing programme.

Together these proposals would have an immediate impact in reducing the cost of loving. They are fair and they are fully costed.

Lets see if Labouts actions match their rethoric about helping families with the cost of living
