Taxpayers Deserve Answers
Suffolk residents deserve transparency.
The Reform UK administration at Suffolk County Council is reportedly considering legal action against the Government’s decision to establish three new unitary authorities in Suffolk.
The administration has reportedly issued a Pre-Action Protocol letter to the Government which is the formal first step towards a potential Judicial Review. However, opposition Liberal Democrat councillors have not been permitted to see the contents of the letter, with access reportedly denied on the grounds of legal privilege.
Any legal challenge of this scale could involve significant costs for Suffolk taxpayers. Residents deserve openness and accountability about any action being taken in their name and with public funds.

We call on Councillor Hadwen and Reform UK at Suffolk County Council to:
- Release a copy of the pre action letter sent to the Government.
- Confirm whether legal advice has been taken regarding the merits of taking this action.
- Confirm how much this process has already cost Suffolk County Council.
- Publish the expected cost of any Judicial Review.
- Confirm who will be paying for it.
This is public money. Suffolk residents deserve answers.
