Our three promises to Suffolk

The County Council elections on 7 May are unusual in that elected councillors will serve only two years as the government's planned re-organisation of local government takes place

One of the prime tasks of the new councillors will be to oversee the creation of three unitary councils to serve all of Suffolk.  Whilst Conservatives and Reform have expressed ongoing opposition to the proposals electing more Liberal Democrat councillors will ensure that the changes are made smoothly, at minimum costs and to best serve the people of Suffolk

In those two years Lib Dems elected from South Suffolk will focus on improvements in  3 areas of the Councils performance

1  Fix our roads
Potholes and poorly maintained rural roads are a constant frustration and danger. They can be drastically improved as the Lib Dem Council in Cambridgeshire has shown

See FIX OUR ROADS! - Babergh Liberal Democrats

2  Standing up for our young people

Suffolk's SEND provision compares badly with similar counties elsewhere. It is a disgrace

An action plan for improvement has been proposed. We will ensure it is implemented

See We must improve Suffolk's SEND performance - Babergh Liberal Democrats

3 Responsible future development with infrastructure

Too often new housing is approved without the roads, GP surgeries and school places needed to support it.
When development happens, it needs appropriate infrastructure
